Guests should be aware that the access to St Nicholas Cottage is up an unmade road, there are permanently occupied properties along the lane and therefore it is no problem for most vehicles to travel up it, only owners of very low profile vehicles should be concerned. There is also a sharp bend to navigate to access the rear of the property. Again for most vehicles this will not be a problem, however long estate cars may have an issue with turning into it. In this case, there is parking at the church car park behind the cottage and a gate leads from the side of St Nicholas onto the churchyard.
Salthouse is a picturesque village located on the North Norfolk Coast just north of the small market town of Holt, and just east of Blakeney and Cley.
Salthouse is a situated in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and overlooks the salt marshes next to the Norfolk Wildlife Trust Nature Reserve at Cley. Clustered around the village green are pretty cottages, a pub with a large front garden that looks directly over the salt marsh, Cookies Crab Shop offering platters of seafood, salads, sandwiches and ice cream. East of the village, past the village pond, is a cottage where you can buy Fish & Chips during the summer months.
The magnificent church of Salthouse holds regular art exhibitions and concerts throughout the year. A new shop has recently opened called The Old Post Office selling local produce including beef from the cattle grazed on the marsh.
The beach is mainly pebble and shingle, but unlike other parts of the Norfolk coast, the tide does not go out very far. Parking is easy and it is perfect for a picnic.
