Island House: Brancaster Staithe - View

“We loved the house with its wonderful Norfolk feel and unique location. It was perfect for 2 dogs and 2 people and we had exceptionally good weather. We admired the water colours, the cushions, the large array of cutlery, pots and pans and crockery, and the kitchen. A special house for a relaxing holiday, and... we loved the Crab Hut!! ”

“We really enjoyed our second week at Island House, and can't imagine a better location. Weather more variable than last year, the new picnic table at the side of the house out of the west wind was useful! The Crab Hut goes from strength to strength. ”

“I am happy to say that we really enjoyed our holiday. Yes it was basic but hardly camping (I don't know what a lot of the other customers were moaning about in the guest book). We loved its quirky style and thought it was full of character. It was clean and once we got the heating sorted, was warm enough. We were very lucky with the weather that week and the views were spectacular. With 3 boys aged 10-17 we were unsure that there would be enough to do but it was amazing how they occupied themselves on the beach and in the garden. We live in Scarborough so it's not as if the beach was a novelty! We ate twice at The Jolly Sailors' and thoroughly recommend it. The only thing I would ask to be improved are the bathrooms. Although adequate, they just seemed tired and a bit in need of some TLC. Also the hot water for a bath was a bit hit and miss even when using the immersion heater, though the shower worked fine. Overall, we loved the house and thought it was good value for money, in a perfect location. REPLY FROM NORFOLK HIDEAWAYS: UPDATE Bathroom is now updated with new bathroom suite.”

Local Area

Brancaster Staithe, just a couple of minutes drive from Brancaster, bustles with sailors.  Home to Brancaster Staithe Sailing Club, the harbour is a busy place.  Fresh seafood  and coffee can be had from the shed on the quay (in high season)or you can go up to The Jolly Sailors where children, muddy dogs and boots are welcomed.  For more formal dining The White Horse provides a spectacular view of the marshes where you can enjoy the local seafood whilst watching the tide come in over the creeks.  The Fish Shed gives you the opportunity to take home some great local produce. Kayaks and boats can be hired from Northshore Sport and Leisure. Brancaster Staithe is right on the Norfolk Coast Path. Fresh mussels can be bought on the quay direct from the fishermen, or try Mervyn in the village, he will have a sign out!
