Surrounding local area

Holt is one of the most attractive small towns in Norfolk in an area of outstanding natural beauty. The town existed before the Norman invasion but was destroyed by fire in 1708. It had to be rebuilt and we're very lucky that the timing meant that the Georgian style was used. The main street is lined with colour-washed Georgian buildings, many of architectural importance. There are tea and coffee shops, lots of antique and curio shops, food shops and delicatessens, banks, independent shops and, of course, historic Gresham's School founded in 1555. The North Norfolk coast at Blakeney is six miles away.

Guest reviews

Good base for exploring north Norfolk. Good central location for strolling round the lovely town of Holt if you don’t want to use the car but only a few minutes from lots of pretty costal villages especially Blakeney. Warm cosy cottage whatever time of year.

Very conveniently situated for all the amenities of Holt. Very warm even though we were here on the coldest weekend of the year. Managed to get out every day, visiting Felbrigg, Blickling and enjoying a ride on the train from Holt to Sheringham and back. Lovely meals at Byfords and The Feathers.

Lovely cottage, well-equipped and a great location for exploring North Norfolk!

Holt itself is lovely - selection of shops, cafes, chip shops etc are excellent and Holt train station is only a few minutes by car for a trip to an old steam train to Sheringham. Wells is only 30 minutes away and closer is Cromer and Felbrigg Hall. For children, Doodle Pots on the road into the centre of town is a brilliant find too! Thanks!

Loved this cottage! Beautifully refurbed and very well equipped. Perfect for us and our two grandchildren. Lovely welcome of flowers, wine and milk in the fridge plus tea and coffee for a cuppa. The steep and slightly irregular stairs took a little getting used to, but we all got there! Location was great, too. Holt is lovely, with some very nice places to eat and drink. And we loved our visits to nearby Cromer, Sheringham and Wells Next The Sea. The children enjoyed the leisure pool at Sheringham, especially, and a highlight for all of us was our Beans Boats trip from Blakeney to see the seals, which was amazing!
