Surrounding local area

Baconsthorpe is a village a few miles south-east of Holt and south of Sheringham.

Holt is around 30 minutes east of Holkham with its glorious wide sandy beach and pinewoods. This pretty Georgian town is a maze of beautiful streets which draw visitors, inluding the Duchess of Cambridge to this beautiful part of North Norfolk. With numerous indepdent shops, cafe's and restaurants and art galleries, you can while away a day just meandering around the streets Not far away is Letheringsett Mill, the last watermill in Norfolk that still produces flour where you'll also find the ever-poopular pub; The King's Head. A little further up the road the renowned Back to the Garden farm shop and restaurant.

Blakeney is one of the jewels on the North Norfolk coast, a mecca for sailors, birders, artist and walkers. The harbour is picturesque and always bustling with children (and adults!)) gillying for crabs. Take the sea defence wall walk over the saltmarsh and you will be rewarded with simply stunning views. The village is a mass of winding streets and tiny fishermens cottages. There are great places to eat and enjoy the local seafood and of course the famous Blakeney Hotel. Blakeney point is a 3 mile spit of sand dunes and shingle with stunning uninterrupted views of the landscapes. It is a wonderful place for walking and wildlife watching as it is home to colonies of breeding Terns and many migraint birds pass through, as well as the colony of about 500 harbour and grey seals within reaching distance when you board a boat to see them from Blakeney or Morston harbour.

Guest reviews

A lovely restful stay at your cottage. Thank you so much. Made good use of the wood burner as the evenings are still chilly. Lots of walking and visits to Byfords in Holt. Thanks again and we hope to be back.

We have enjoyed a lovely week in Norfolk. We love the country lanes and footpaths. Locally, I have walked to Baconsthorpe Castle andPlumstead. We enjoyed cooking in the kitchen of The Cottage after shopping at Budgens. Your patio was an enjoyable sunny spot for holiday reading. The fragrances in the cottage were much appreciated.

A perfect, beautiful, warm and cosy hide-away.

We completely forgot to write in the visitors' book at the cottage so I very much hope this will be relayed to the owners. We're a family of four and we loved The Cottage - it was beautifully furnished, spotlessly clean and cosy and warm - especially with the wood burner roaring away - when the weather turned chilly and rainy. From the outside it looks very quaint and, we initially thought, rather small but the refurbishment has been so skillfully done that it feels spacious and very comfortable once you're inside. The kitchen was well equipped and the only thing the bathroom lacked was enough headroom for a shower! Baths all round with plenty of hot water! The Cottage's lovely location in a quiet and peaceful village was ideal for us - we loved walking to Baconsthorpe Castle, just a short stroll from the cottage. All in all a perfect weekend hide away.

We have had a great first visit to Norfolk, made even better by the lovely weather. The cottage made a very comfortable base for touring all the many villages along the coast. Planning a second visit before too long! Best wishes.

A delightful cottage with a real countryside setting. Close to Holt and good ' eating out venues'. Many places to venture out to but equally, just lovely to rest in the best cottage I have ever stayed in.

We've thoroughly enjoyed our stay here at The Cottage - thank you so much for sharing your beautiful holiday home! We've also been lucky to enjoy good weather through the week, which ahs made our various excursions so pleasant. (Cromer, Wells, Sheringham, Cley, Holkham Beach, Felbrigg Hall, Sandringham - all delightful!) To top it all, we also had the luck of visiting when the Red Arrows were in Cromer. Thanks again and best wishes.

Have enjoyed a lovely stay in your cosy cottage. Visited Holt in particular good food in Byfords, The Pigs at Edgefield also good. No .1 restaurant at Cromer excellent Fish & Chips! Felbrigg Hall always worth a visit. Walked to Baconsthorpe Castle despite a very blustery wind! Thank you.

A brilliantly located cottage near Holt. It is an old property full of character and charm, well equipped with kitchen appliances and Laura Ashley furnishings.

“We very much enjoyed our stay in The Cottage, The Street, Baconsthorpe. As old(ish) Norfolk hands we found it a great base to explore old haunts and were pleasantly surprised by how close - through lovely cycle-able lanes - Baconsthorpe is to the coast (Salthouse - Weybourne), steam railway and places like Blickling Hall. We enjoyed the porkpies from Itteringham shop - they were delicious.”
