Property details

Stone Cottage, a delightful 200-year-old detached cottage, is reputedly the oldest house in the sought after village of Sharrington and was, at one time, the village post office.

Full of character, the cottage has been renovated in recent years and, under the current ownership, has been transformed into a really lovely, welcoming and comfortable holiday property, with modern touches and quirky decorative bits and pieces. The age of the cottage means the beamed ceilings are on the lowish side, the stairs are quite steep (there is no handrail), and the width of the doorway to the twin bedded room is 'slimline'. There's a fabulously cosy open plan living area, divided by a large double sided log burner to keep you warm in the winter months. In the summer, there is a really lovely private, enclosed garden to enjoy.

With three bedrooms, and two bathrooms, the cottage will appeal to families, and couples, who want to enjoy this beautiful part of rural North Norfolk. Just three miles from the ever popular Georgian market town of Holt, one mile from an award-winning farm shop and restaurant, and within easy driving distance of the beautiful coastal villages of Morston, Cley and Blakeney, there is something on offer for everyone.

Entrance Porch
A glazed entrance door leads you into the cottage. The porch has a quarry tiled floor, coat hooks and shoe rack.

Entrance Hallway
The hallway has a tiled floor and there is a step down into the open plan living area.

Open plan Sitting Room/Dining Room
A very cosy relaxing area, with antique agricultural finds adorning the walls. A brick chimney breast divides the room and houses the double sided multi fuel log burner (a starter pack of fuel will be provided in the winter months). The ceiling is beamed across the room, being just slightly lower in the sitting area. There is a farmhouse style wooden table with six painted chairs in the dining half, and two comfy sofas with throws and cushions in the sitting half of the room. There is a wide screen Apple TV and Amazon Fire stick, DVD player and board games for cosy nights in. Double glazed windows overlook the pretty garden.

Please note: The Apple TV and Amazon Fire stick are accessible on the TV - this gives full Internet TV and connection to BBC IPlayer. It is also connected to amazon Prime films and box sets. These are free of charge however guests are respectfully requested to not buy films that are chargeable or connect via their own amazon account. There is a sound bar under the TV unit for Bluetooth connection that can be connected to play guests own music from a phone/tablet.

A small but functional room, open to the dining/sitting room. Painted units house plenty of equipment and there is a bright red Smeg fridge/freezer for that retro feel. There is a Stoves induction cooker, slimline dishwasher and microwave.

A really useful room off the hallway, with shelving for food storage, and a place for the washer/dryer.

Master Bedroom
There is a king-size bed with iron bedstead, painted wardrobe and matching bedside chests of drawers, and wall mounted bedside lamps. Windows overlook the garden. A light-filled, pretty room.

Downstairs Shower Room
A double shower cubicle, with glazed screen to one side, washbasin and wc.

First Floor:

Landing/Study area
There is a small landing area at the top of the stairs, where there is just enough space for a desk with stool and an easy chair - a good spot to read and write.

Upstairs Bedroom suite
A door from the landing leads into a small room, with 2'6"single bed, chest of drawers and easy chair. A further, narrow doorway, from within this room takes you into a twin bedded room with iron bedsteads, bedside table with lamp, easy chair, chest of drawers and TV. Due to sloping ceilings, there is some restricted headroom to both rooms.

A fully tiled room with white suite comprising bath, washbasin and WC.

In the summer, there is a really lovely private, enclosed garden to enjoy.

Stone Cottage holiday cottage location

Surrounding local area

Holt is one of the most attractive small towns in Norfolk in an area of outstanding natural beauty. The town existed before the Norman invasion but was destroyed by fire in 1708. It had to be rebuilt and we're very lucky that the timing meant that the Georgian style was used. The main street is lined with colour-washed Georgian buildings, many of architectural importance. There are tea and coffee shops, lots of antique and curio shops, food shops and delicatessens, banks, independent shops and, of course, historic Gresham's School founded in 1555. The North Norfolk coast at Blakeney is six miles away.

Guest reviews

Great property in a fantastic location with easy access to nearby towns and villages. This cottage was like home from home the owners have thought of everything to ensure you enjoy your stay! Although the weather was bright we didn’t get much sunshine but were still able to enjoy using the Bbq one evening. Many thanks for an enjoyable stay.

Couldn’t fault this cottage as it met our requirements with the downstairs facilities The location is ideal if you are looking for somewhere quiet but it is in easy reach of the main places to visit. Basically it was just what we were looking for and wasn’t disappointed. There are a lot of nice touches inside and out. The weather was absolutely fantastic so obviously a bonus. It was nice to sit and have a drink in the garden in the evening after a day out and just chill. Very relaxing stay. Thank you. Would love to visit again.

Fab cottage, brilliant location. This was probably the best cottage we have ever stayed in, top spec on everything. Beautiful and comfortable cottage, the garden was ideal for our Labrador to run around in. Would recommend this to everyone.

Fabulous stay - what a gorgeously appointed cottage. We have stayed here before but it has been updated beautifully but still in keeping with its age. The cottage was lovely and warm despite freezing temperatures. The kitchen and bathrooms well stocked. We all felt relaxed and right at home from the very start.

A lovely cottage in a quiet village location, with lots of great places to visit right on your doorstep. The cottage was beautifully decorated and well equipped with everything you need for a relaxing break. There was a very pretty enclosed garden which was safe for children and dogs. Would recommend to families and couples who like to get away from it all.

We have stayed here several times before but the new owners have made some excellent improvements. The addition of a new single bedroom space means the accommodation is much more flexible. Downstairs bedroom and bathroom for a couple. Upstairs 2 twin beds, single bed in separate alcove and bathroom for our daughter, partner and grandchild. Allows us all privacy and no bathroom queueing! Cottage very well equipped eg dishwasher, washer/dryer, plenty of crockery etc, nicely decorated and comfortably furnished. Lovely enclosed garden, safe for pets and children, nice garden furniture. Quiet location with easy access to all attractions provides the perfect balance for a peaceful relaxed holiday. Would highly recommend this property

We've been to Wells, Cley, Holt, Sheringham, Cromer, West Runton. Places visited unclude mini railway in Wells, The George at Cley, Sheringham Park (up the lookout tower), Binham Priory, The Kings Head at Leatheringsett (delicious), Stiffkey to the Red Lion (very good value), Crabbing off the Cromer Pier, Italian meal in Holt at Capri was gorgeous, and then Felbrigg Hall and the Dunn Cow. Very welcoming pub and good portion food. All suitbably stuffed. Plenty of beacheds visited and amusements too. Still, there's more to see. Cottage is warm and cosy, everyone enjoyed themselves.

Stone Cottage is simply perfect, a family and dog friendly cottage, we hope to return. Lots of wonderful days out exploring North Norfolk - Seal trip from Morston Quay, Crabbing at Blakeney Harbour, the steam train from Holt to Sherringham or simply paddling with dogs at Glandford Ford. Great food and drink - highly recommend breakfast at Byfords in Holt, the farm shop 'back to the garden', The Dunn Cow and Crabby's at Salthouse, Wiverton Bell at Wiverton Kings Head at Holt, Anchor at Morston - The list is endless!!

We have had the most wonderful, fun, active, memorable, week in North Norfolk. Stone Cottage is ideally located to explore everywhere as well as being very comfortable, quiet and cosy. Super garden. We explored from Brancaster to Cromer and everywhere in between. Kayaked at Brancaster Staithe. Hired bikes from Huff and Puff cycles, cycled around Holkham and did the outdoor theatre there, crabbed at blakeney, sea fished at Cley and more. We shall be returning - and just these few important degrees warmer than the borders!!
