Property details

Old Hall Cottage is situated in the grounds of Heacham Hall, where the fabled Pochahontas lived in the 17th century. This charming coastal cottage offers a spacious, tranquil escape for a weekend or longer stay. Beautifully furnished, it boasts casual country style. Set in an ideal location with beautiful walks nearby and easy access to the county's top golf courses and finest beaches.

Positioned amidst parkland, lakes and pretty woodland, this lovely proportioned cottage is big and beautiful inside and out and is perfect for a group of friends, larger family or couples wanting to stay in a great location close to all that North Norfolk has to offer.

Step inside and you will feel at home immediately. The large welcoming kitchen with Aga, breakfast bar and sofa opens up into a large and more formal dining room, perfect for late suppers where you can share good food, a few bottles of wine and some good conversation. The large sitting room with feature fireplace and log burner leads onto a fabulous conservatory which opens up onto a terrace with large lawned garden, maximising the far reaching views to the parkland beyond.

Although stylish, this is most definitely a home with a big and generous heart and you will adore the space and peace it offers when you retreat at the end of a busy day. There's nothing lovelier than sitting out on the terrace after a busy day exploring, or cosier than snuggling up watching movies after a day stomping the Norfolk coastal path.

Treating yourself to a lazy breakfast in bed whilst watching the children play in the garden through the French doors from the super king size master en suite bedroom is nothing short of wonderful.

With three further king size bedrooms upstairs and a family bathroom, there is plenty of privacy too and with a downstairs twin bedroom, complete with log burning stove and fireplace, this pretty property will excite anyone who stays.

The gorgeous garden is accessed via the terrace at the rear and you can look forward to al fresco dining, romantic sundowners and sunny family picnics sat under the ancient trees, imagining what it was like when Pochahontas lived here. From the beautiful garden you can also access the owners’ private parkland and grounds and enjoy long country walks from your doorstep. The garden is enclosed with a post and rail 3 bar fence so small dogs may escape. There is a haha at the end of the garden to access the private land beyond.

You certainly don’t have to go far in Heacham before you are reminded of its rumoured connection with Pocahontas. She’s the centrepiece of the village sign, plus there is a memorial to her in the village church. The Native American chieftain’s daughter was married to John Rolfe, a member of the West Norfolk village’s leading family at the time and a key figure in the early English settlement of America. The local connection is still celebrated through a fishing lake, a Pocahontas pageant and carnivals in Heaham village.

Old Hall Cottage holiday cottage location

Surrounding local area

Heacham is a pretty village located in North West Norfolk and the Norman church is the oldest surviving building in the village dating bak to 1230. The village shops include two supermarkets, a butcher shop, a bakery and a selection of smaller shops, pubs and restaurants. Within easy reach of HM The Queen's country residence Sandringham, the RSPB bird reserves at Snettisham and Titchwell and the Victorian seaside town of Hunstanton where you have more beautful beaches and a great watersports facility and aquarium. Heacham is a great place to base yourself for exploring the whole Norfolk coast. Head to Holme nature reserve or Old Hunstanton or Brancaster beaches and fly a kite or watch from the sand dunes as the locals kite surf the waves. Head to Holkham Hall for a bit of agricultural history and explore the house and museum or simply walk like Gwyneth Paltrow did in Shakespeare In Love on the deserted white sandy beach that seems to go on forever. Norfolk has an abundance of cycle routes and there is nothing nicer than cycling the quiet lanes that stretch from the Peddar's Way over the Ringstead downs or walking on the scenic coastal paths. With so much local produce and fabulous pubs and restaurants to serve it, this little part of England is somewhere you will want to return to again and again.

Guest reviews

We stayed to celebrate a 60th birthday and this property was perfect. Everything was comfortable, amazing views, and q very quick response when we had a problem with the AGA.

Great family break. A lovely, spacious, welcoming house, filled with top quality furnishings and fittings (lovely big, fluffy towels and great bed linen). The huge garden was a bit hit with the children.
