Property details

Flint House is a beautifully presented holiday home in the historic village of Castle Acre.

This lovely house is bright, comfortably furnished and very well equipped. The sitting room features a multi fuel stove with steps leading down to the dining area. All the bedrooms have lovely views down the twisty village road which leads to the river and water meadows beyond.

Charming countryside walks can be taken directly from the house and along the meandering River Nar. The Peddars Way, an historic pilgrims path that runs from Thetford to Hunstanton, passes within 200 yards of the house.
With a village pub, popular tea rooms, a shop, historical ruins and lovely scenic walks on hand, you might not feel the need to venture too far, but the beautiful North Norfolk coast is easily reached and only a 25 minute scenic drive away.

Flint House holiday cottage location

Surrounding local area

Castle Acre takes its name from the walled castle built in the 12th-century by the Normans and is one of the most historical villages in the area.
There is plenty to see without driving anywhere when you stay here including the famous Castle Acre Priory and Castle, the church, pub and tea shop. There is even a traditional toy shop!
The best known walk in the parish is the Peddars Way. This ancient Roman path, 46 miles long, begins at Thetford in south Norfolk and goes northwards to the coast near Holme-next-the-Sea. To walk a short local section, it enters Castle Acre at the foot of Bailey Street and continues up through the village and beyond to the border of Great Massingham, a distance of some four miles.
The Nar Valley Way, 34 miles long, starts in Kings Lynn and goes through the southern breadth of Castle Acre towards Lexham, finishing in Dereham.
In Castle Acre, footpaths criss-cross the water meadows and several fields, allowing walkers through under the Countryside Stewardship agreement. There are signs and boards indicating where these fields are, some near to the Priory and others in the east of the parish.

Guest reviews

Never having visited Norfolk before we were fortunate to find Flint House. This was ideally situated for the places we wanted to visit. The house we found very comfortable with everything to hand and well presented. Castle Acre provided much interest in itself and with shop, pub and chip shop we were well satisfied.

We had a great stay at Flint House over Christmas. The accommodation was ideally located and very well equipped. Had no problems using the kitchen to prepare Christmas dinner with all the trimmings. Every day we would open the curtains and be taken aback by the amazing views that Flint House commands. We found the village extremely friendly with everyone saying hello or good morning. The pub and tea rooms are well worth a visit and my 9 year old loved the castle and priory
