Property details

The Cart Lodge has been completely refurbished and offers contemporary and charming accommodation for up to four people. In the most beautiful of settings, the grounds are a delight and you will have the opportunity to meet the owner's alpaca's, a treat for children and adults alike; there may even be the opportunity to walk and feed the alpaca's! The living space is open plan, with full height ceilings, exposed trusses and a large picture window at one end making the space feel light and airy. The under floor heating ensures that you are cosy in the colder months and the tasteful furnishings and quality linens lend a feeling of luxury to the experience.

Situated on the other side of the courtyard from The Dairy, both cottages could be booked together giving two families the opportunity to holiday together whilst still retaining their own personal space.

The Peddars Walk pathway is close by and you can enjoy walks into Great Massingham (approx three quarters of a mile) where you will find one of Norfolk’s prettiest villages with two large central ponds and the popular Dabbling Duck gastro pub which the younger Royal's often frequent. The Cart Lodge and The Dairy are part of West Heath Barns and situated in grounds of 4.5 acres so there is plenty of tranquil rural space where you can spend time recharging your batteries and enjoying the peaceful setting!

A one hour complimentary Alpacca walk is included for guests staying at The Cart Lodge.

Surrounding local area

Great Massingham is one of Norfolk's most attractive villages and has one of the most photographed village greens in the county. Several large ponds dominate the village; some of which have their origins as the fish ponds for an 11th century Augustinian Abbey. In 2009 the village won a CPRE Community Open Spaces award and in both 2009 & 2010 an ‘EDP Pride in Norfolk’ award for villages with a population under 1000. The beautiful North Norfolk coast is just a 20 minute drive away. The village has a thriving community with a shop and also pub called The Dabbling Duck that has an excellent bar and restaurant and of course you are close to Sandringham, HM The Queen's country residence.

Guest reviews

Gill and David are absolutely lovely and couldn't be more helpful. The cottage was really comfortable and had a high standard of fixtures and fittings. The walks just from the door were full of the local wildlife including hares, game birds, owls and deer. I also spent a fantastic morning with Gill feeding her adorable Alpaca. We really didn't want to come home.

We really enjoyed our stay in the Cart Lodge - it was spacious and well equipped for our family of four (kids are 6 yrs and 4 yrs). Our kids absolutely loved visiting the alpacas every evening in the field behind the cottage! Gill and Dave are really friendly - they live in the b and b next to the cottage and are on hand for any advice for days out etc but you have complete privacy in the cottage and a bit of outdoor space for the kids to run about on right in front. We had a lovely few days exploring great beaches (Wells and Old Hunstanton are not too far away) as well as castles and national trust places. A great place to recharge your batteries!

We have recently returned from a weeks stay at The Cart Lodge and could not have asked for more perfect holiday accommodation for our first family holiday. When we arrived we were greeted and shown around the property, and we soon tucked into the delicious lemon drizzle cake. The rest of the welcome pack (tea, coffee, milk) was very much appreciated. We've stayed in many self catering cottages over the last ten years throughout the UK and The Cart Lodge is by far the most well equipped allowing us to settle in really quickly and feel at home, from the kitchen equipment to bathroom toiletries. The Lodge has been decorated to an exceptional standard and there were a selection of books, DVD's and games to use (not that we had the time with a four month old!). We also took the opportunity to take a walk around the grounds and meet the resident alpacas. Dave and Gill, the owners, are available should you need advice or experience any problems - we did not have any problems but it was lovely to catch up with both of them at the end of our holiday before departing. In terms of the local attractions we visited Wells-next-the-Sea, Holkham Hall and Beach, Hunstanton and the Sealife Centre, the Sandringham Estate and Banham Zoo. We hope to return at some point in the near future but in the meantime wish Dave and Gill continued success and thoroughly recommend West Heath Barn to anybody considering either the B&B or holiday lets.

We were greeted by the new owners Gill and David who showed us around The Cartlodge which is a beautifully converted barn. It is set in several acres of grounds which connect to Peddars Way and was great for walking our dog. The barn itself is extremely well appointed having everything that you will need - it even came with a nice home made Victoria sandwich, a bunch of flowers and enough provisions to have a cup of tea etc! This is a great location for visiting many places on the Norfolk coastline and other areas e.g. Sandringham. We enjoyed many lovely walks from The Cartlodge and on the Norfolk coast path. Many thanks to Gill and David for helping to make our visit one to remember.

The Lodge had everything you could want, with lots of space and presented beautifully. Owners (Gill & David) could not have been more friendly & welcoming. Whether you wanted to just put your feet up and relax, walk locally or visit Norfolk, the Cart Lodge could not be more perfect. Already booked to go back.
