Property details

Nestled along a private driveway and set back from the road, this pretty flint-walled detached cottage built in 1845, has been beautifully and artistically-styled. Spacious, light and bright and just minutes from the sandy beach in Thornham and a short walk to the vast selection of restaurants, shops and pubs, this is a fantastic family and dog-friendly coastal retreat with pretty enclosed garden.

You will know when you walk through the door that you have chosen well. Poplar’s has a wonderful welcoming feel and being an artist, the owner has decorated every room with flamboyance and flair. Each of the living spaces boast gorgeous, sumptuous sofas and chairs to relax in and the main living space has a gorgeous open fire, perfect for warming your toes on cooler evenings. Plus there is a large TV with Netflix and an adjoining games room for the children to hide themselves away in and entertain themselves with table tennis table, DVD and Wii console.

Cooking will be a pleasure in the fantastic and well-equipped kitchen. With everything you need, you will be able to rustle up a storm here and dine on the large trestle table in the light and bright garden/dining room which overlooks the pretty garden. Pick up some locally caught fish from Gurney’s fishmonger’s and some fruit from the pick-your-own farm at Drove Orchards at the far end of the village and enjoy cooking together, or simply spend a lazy afternoon reading with a glass of Pimms in the tranquil and peaceful, pretty enclosed garden.

Sleeping comes easy here and after a day on the beach or exploring the coast you will appreciate the super-comfy beds. Poplars comes with three bedrooms; one King-size bedroom with en suite; one double and a twin, perfect for children or friends who are happy to share. There is also a family bathroom on the first floor with Jacuzzi bath and a downstairs cloakroom.

Outside you will find a pretty garden with relaxing water feature and 50 cm deep pond, so please ensure you supervise young children. But the space is delightful for a spot of al fresco dining and you can enjoy good conversation sat outside around the large garden table as the sun goes down. There is also a small front courtyard and off-road parking to the front of the property for one car, although additional cars can park on the road.

The Poplars holiday cottage location

Surrounding local area

Being in the heart of Thornham there is plenty to do right on your doorstep, with the sandy beach and harbour and the numerous pubs, restaurants and shops, you will be kept entertained and you will soon realise you are well and truly in a great spot for exploring the whole of the North Norfolk coast. Once a thriving port with a smuggling past, Thornham is now a vibrant coastal village which has grown up beside the creeks, tidal marshes and mud flats (said to possess healing properties) which are now protected by the nature reserve. Walk out to the beautiful beach accessed via a walkway from the harbour, where you’ll spot the famous Coal Barn. A few miles either way you have more glorious beaches to explore, including Brancaster, Holme-next-the-Sea and Old Hunstanton which lies at the seaward end of the prehistoric Peddar’s Way. Visit the RSPB bird reserves at Titchwell and Snettisham and make sure you visit Sandringham and Holkham, both with fantastic parklands, the latter of which boasts one of the best beaches in the UK. Head to Wells-next-the-Sea where you can enjoy Dutch pancakes on The Albatross Barge, moored in the harbour or while away many fun hours 'gillying' for crabs from the harbour wall. A day trip to Morston to see the seals close up is a must, as is fish and chips on Wells quay, although you also have one of the best fish and chip shops in Thornham; Eric's, which is one of the coolest places to hang out.
