Property details

Scalp Cottage (just in case you are wondering, a scalp is a beach sand formation!) is a single-storey chalet situated just minutes from the beach and saltmarsh at Holme-next-the-Sea. Hidden away off the private road leading to Holme Dunes Nature Reserve.

Scalp Cottage is one of three similar properties at the end of an unmade driveway. It has three bedrooms, two with double beds and one single (with trundle bed beneath), a family bathroom, sitting room with dining area and separate kitchen. This means the cottage can offer very flexible accommodation for both couples and families. Should you require the 'sleeping six' option, please request on booking.

Recently refurbished and decorated, Scalp offers comfortable and dog friendly accommodation. The garden to the rear is completely enclosed and secure, so both children and dogs can play safely. This is a great spot for bird watching and relaxing in the peace and quiet.

Surrounding local area

The pretty village of Holme Next the Sea is right on the North Norfolk Heritage Coast. Norfolk Wildlife Trust manages the Holme Dunes Nature reserve. The Victorian seaside town of Hunstanton is 3 miles away and the beaches at Brancaster and Old Hunstanton are both less than 5 minutes drive.

Guest reviews

This was our first stay at Scalp Cottage and we'll definitely be booking it again. The setting was idyllic, down a secluded track, and we could walk to the beach in ten minutes. The garden was large and secure, ideal for kids and dogs. This is a paradise for bird lovers; we heard cuckoos in the evenings, and had a pair of ducks visiting us for breakfast (they love muesli!).

We had a lovely week spent relaxing, walking with the dog and generally chilling out. The cottage was the perfect base for this type of break.

“We have had a fabulous 4 day stay, we really weren't ready to go home. The cottage is in the perfect spot for everything we wanted to do, we have run along the coastal path, walked along the beach while Scoob was in and out of the sea, visited various local places, Blakeney, Hunstanton etc. but were always happiest to return to this little piece of heaven! Thornham Deli is a fabulous place for coffee and cake (just to keep energy levels up for running of course!!) and the Gin Trap is fab for a meal and drink, its a must.. Chad tried the Gin taster menu - his legs were a little wobbly after. We will definitely be booking again. Thank you.”

“Found the cottage very pleasantly situated close to the beach and footpath, and ideal for getting away from the madding crowd, and would be excellent for birdwatchers and walkers. The property itself was perfect for families as well as couples, plenty of room and very nicely appointed. All the equipment provided was in excellent condition and was in good working order. The property was in a good state of cleanliness when we arrived, and we are pleasantly surprised with the very nice welcome pack provided. We were more than pleased with Scalp cottage and would book again without hesitation. ***** stars.”

“2nd visit in 3 months! Despite the forecasts, the weather remained kind. Several interesting birds in the garden: water rail, green woodpecker, juvenile robins and wrens, mallards and many common birds. We shall return!! Chris & Chris & Pippa”

“We love our home on the Norfolk Broads but love to come up to North Norfolk! It always surpasses our expectations! The beach (and wildlife) must be one of the best in Norfolk. Turn left out of the drive here a few hundred yards down the road is a path across Redwell Marshes which ends up near the excellent White Horse Pub! Lovely cottage, we can't wait to come back. Peter & Sandra.”
