Surrounding local area

Thornham is an old smuggling village right on the North Norfolk Coast. Wide expanses of salt marsh separate the village from the sea and it is a paradise for walkers and bird watchers. There are several great places to eat including The Village Deli, selling all manner of local produce and great coffee, The Lifeboat Inn, an old smuggling haunt complete with heavy beams and roaring fires, The Orange Tree a gastro pub and The Coach House selling pizza and pasta. The beach, reached by a walk over the sea defence over the salt marshes, is stunning and you will be rewarded by peace and quiet!

Guest reviews

We thoroughly enjoyed our week in House Martin cottage. The cottage is cosy and comfortable and we particularly enjoyed watching the blackbird family in their nest by the front door. Thornham has the most amazing beach and wildlife, a beautiful area.

We stayed at House Martins Cottage in Thornham for a walking break in Feb 2017. Half an hour from the front door to the dunes of Holme! A great base from which to walk section of the coast path with a combination of car and coasthopper bus. The cottage is small but well thought out and very welcoming and cosy after a day of snowy walking. Everything we needed for basic cooking, plus the advantage of being a couple of minutes walk from Thornham deli cafe, the OT and The Chequers pub. A beautiful cottage with its beams, wooden lintels and exposed brickwork...lots of character. Back hme now, and missing it!

“House Martin's cottage provides everything needed for a break on the N. Norfolk coast. Sympathetically modernised it retains traditional features which make it an interesting as well as comfortable bolt hole. We found it ideally located for visiting the bird watching reserves in the area with Titchwell RSPB only 5 minutes away. All in all we found everything we wanted for our stay in Norfolk.”

A very good base from which to explore local area, beaches and restaurants. One or two minor quirks which I reported to the owner before leaving, but otherwise fine and reasonable value.”

“We had another fantastic week, our sixth in a row. So hot we had to have Pimms on the lawn. Can't recommend this cottage too much . We'll be back next year for sure. ”
