Property details

As the name would imply, this Grade II listed detached cottage was once the village forge. Recently converted, this character property has been transformed by the owner into a truly stunning, stylish, fabulous holiday retreat. Creatively furnished with an eclectic mix of old and new, the emphasis has been placed on style, comfort, peace and relaxation. Equally splendid is the wonderful, mature pretty south and west facing garden which stretches all around the rear of the cottage, and has the charm of a secret garden with 'hidden' areas to explore.

The original blacksmith's fireplace still stands, now with a modern log burner installed, and is the focal feature in the large dining kitchen. A recent extension houses a lovely cosy sitting room with an open fire and french doors overlooking the garden. An inner hallway serves as a cloaks/boot room and has access into the rear garden. There's a small study too, with a comfy chair and reading lamp; a perfect space for some quiet time. All on one level, with two king size bedrooms and two bathrooms, one of which is en suite with a large freestanding bathtub, this lovely holiday property will particularly appeal to couples and friends, but is just as suitable for a small family.

Binham is a pretty rural village, set almost entirely within a Conservation Area. There's a good pub, and convenient village store and some atmospheric Benedictine Priory ruins - all just a short walk away. Only three miles inland from the coastal village of Stiffkey, The OldForge. is a perfect base from which to explore all the delights of this beautiful part of North Norfolk either on foot, by bike or by car.

Well-behaved dogs are welcome at The Old Forge (a charge of £30/dog is applicable), and are requested to respect house rules.

The Old Forge holiday cottage location

Surrounding local area

Binham is an historical village a few miles inland from Wells next the Sea. Binham is a really beautiful example of a traditional Norfolk village with the added attraction of the priory.
The 12th century Priory has wonderful outdoor concerts in the summer.
There is an excellent pub called The Chequers, that brews its own beer, a village shop and a very good butcher.
Walking in the area is excellent and very peaceful, you can really escape the madding crowds without being too far away from the interesting local towns of Wells-Next-The-Sea or Blakeney.

Beautifully renovated cottage in the prettiest village. The perfect weekend escape!
We had the most relaxing stay here. The Old Forge is cosy, yet spacious (we were a party of two couples) tastefully kitted out, and has everything you need and more. We loved the welcome treats and the wood stove. The beds were very comfortable and the garden magical... snowdrops picked and left in the bedrooms was a lovely touch.
The village pub served a great steak and has wonderfully friendly staff. And Binham is the prettiest village, with a shop that has everything! Thank you for a great stay - we’ll be back and next time will bring our dogs!

Well.... not sure how to begin to describe the week we've had here. Binham is a very special place to us for many reasons and we've been coming here for the past 10/11 years. This holiday was much needed and couldn't have been spent anywhere better. The house is welcoming, spacious but cosy, beautifully decorated with EVERYTHING you need. The fire has been a delight in these chilly evenings. The welcome of bubbles, tomatoes, biscuits and Binham blue (already was my fave!) was a treat! The flowers made me smile. Even though it's November we were able to sit at the table outside to drink coffee in the morning sunshine. Love the en suite bath tub and shower was cracking too! We had friends join us for the night and they didn't want to leave. Will return with our babies (22 & 19!) as they adore Norfolk too. We will be back! You have something truly magical here, Thank You! Our holiday motto has been 'Enjoy The Now...'

Great long weekend in your lovely cosy cottage. Everything we needed and more! Did some great walks -wind swept along the beaches and the three mile circular walk around Binham. Highly recommend the pub, busy and friendly, delicious fish and chips - would love to come again! PS: Thanks for the welcome pack - Prosecco and cheese - delicious! Fresh flowers in the rooms -lovely touch!

We have just returned from a week long holiday at The Old Forge, Binham. What an amazing cottage! My husband and I were so impressed. It was perfect for our two boys, aged five and two. The enclosed garden was beautiful and the boys enjoyed picking fruit which was growing in abundance from the trees and veg patch. The cottage is well equipped and furnished beautifully. We arrived to fresh flowers in three of the rooms and a bottle of Prosecco, local apple juice and blue cheese, what a treat! Centrally located for lots of fun days out. We will definitely be recommending to friends and family.

Superb cottage and we look forward to returning sometime in the near future. The garden was delightful and Dylan enjoyed all the nooks and crannies in complete safety. Very friendly village shop and pub situated just a few yards away. The cottage was very well equipped.
