Property details

Brooke Cottage is quite simply everything you would imagine from a traditional old Norfolk cottage. Grade II listed, and dating from the 17th century, there's a huge inglenook fireplace with a wood burning stove, a twisty, steep winder staircase, original pine latched doors, a lovely brass bed and views over the green of an historical village. The cottage is furnished beautifully with period and comfortable furniture. The doors are low so you may need to remember to duck your head!

The cottage is situated in a peaceful and pretty area on a quiet country lane. The River Stiffkey runs through the village and there is a ford to drive through - although there is an alternative route if you wish! The popular coastal resort of Wells-next-the-Sea with its independent shops, cafes, restaurants, fabulous Quay and stunning beach is a few minutes’ drive away.

Brooke Cottage holiday cottage location

Surrounding local area

Great Walsingham, in true Normal for Norfolk style is actually smaller than Little Walsingham its more famous neighbour.
The two villages are bisected by the River Stiffkey and the braver of visitors can drive through the picturesque ford providing you have a large enough vehicle.
This is a lovely spot to come and sit and watch the water float by and walk along the river bank. It is much more peaceful than Little Walsingham with a beautiful mediaeval church which retains much of its original art and carvings.
There is a craft barn and local cafe serving very delicious lunches and light snacks.
The coast at Wells next the Sea is a very short drive away.

Guest reviews

We have had the loveliest stay. Such a cosy and comfortable cottage. So well thought out. Thank you for the wine and ready to light fire for when we arrived - so welcoming! We loved the key safe and being able to let ourselves in and make ourselves at home. We are sad to leave and will definitely be back! Walsingham is well known to us and we look forward to staying here again. Thanks so much.

If you're looking for the epitome of a Norfolk brick and flint cottage beautiful Brooke Cottage is perfect. Quirky room designs, lovely décor and tonnes of history - we loved calling this cottage home for the week. We appreciated the wine (delicious) and milk that was left for us and found the cottage equipped with everything we needed and more. The beds were comfortable, the log burner easy to use, there were plenty of games and DVDs to keep us entertained in the evening and the pub was only a short walk away.

A Nice break. We found to the cottage to be in a great location for the North Norfolk coast, where there are walks a plenty. The cottage itself was very cosy and homely, plenty of space and quiet, the local people are very friendly.
We found Little Walsingham a wonderful place to visit and to eat out in the local pubs especially The Black Lion and Bull Inn. Overall we couldn't have asked for a better place to stay and would consider a return visit

Perfect stay. A perfect place to stay with friends. Great location, beautiful house and area and easy to get everywhere. The cottage is cosy but the two living rooms means there’s plenty of space. Lovely fire and everything thought of. We’d love to come back. We got the little steam engine to Wells and the Abbey gardens with snowdrops were lovely.

Our fifth visit I think, lost count! We all love coming to this cosy and pretty cottage; our favourite winter treat! The fire is superb and we liked all the new touches since last time - mirror in the bathroom and new throws. We had a windy but mostly sunny week. Lovely walks nearby and so many dog friendly pubs.

Merry Christmas! Thank you for making our stay extra special by dressing this lovely cottage for Christmas! Everything looked perfect so a big thanks to the person/people who went the extra mile! PS: Absolutely loved the fact we had no WiFi and phone signal!

Brooke cottage - Cottage is charming and unmistakeably 'Norfolk' to me. Perfect if you like the rustic style, which we all do. Would love to stay again.

Brooke Cottage is very picturesque and well suited as a base for exploring the surrounding area. The cottage is clean, comfortable and generally well appointed.
The stairs are extremely steep so would not recommend for those with young children or the elderly. It would benefit from the addition of somewhere to air the towels - a WiFi connection and a larger television but we had a thoroughly enjoyable break here in October 2017 and would certainly recommend it.

Brooke Cottage lies in the tranquil and beautiful village of Great Walsingham, perfect for accessing the fabulous North Norfolk Coast. The Cottage is very cozy and yet is still more spacious than it looks from the outside, and has all the facilities you need. For us it has now become a home from home and we have just booked for our 4th stay.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. No one hit their heads amazingly! Cottage beautifully furnished and decorated, even the dubious weather couldn't spoil things for us. Had a delicious meal at the Black Lion. 3 Horseshoes closed until Summer.

“A delightful cottage in a beautiful location. A pleasant walk into the village which has a variety of tea shops. Close to the North Norfolk coast and it's attractions. Would certainly recommend it.”

Brooke Cottage is very pretty with its roses around the door and chocolate box appeal. Lovely cosy interior and great to have 2 receptions and 2 bathrooms - the added addition of a country cottage garden was fabulous for ourselves and the dogs. Not far to travel for good food and lovely quality farm shops.”

Very cosy and comfortable cottage in a lovely quiet village. Don't be concerned by the lack of central heating as the storage heaters throw out lots of heat, but there's also a log burner (with fuel). Beds are extremely comfortable.

Sharon and Mary stayed at Brooke Cottage from Friday until Sunday (26/02/2016-28/02/2016)as it was a raffle prize that I won. It is a stunning and beautiful cottage in a lovely area, the cottage was well equipped and very clean, beds were amazing and the log burner was bliss so all in all I would thoroughly recommend this hideaway if you are looking for a quiet breakaway.

Just returned from a mid October break in gorgeous, comfy, cosy, warm and yet modern country styled Brooke Cottage. Well equipped, immaculately clean and well maintained, reflecting caring and thoughtful ownership. Deep, comfortable beds with crisp white linen and a well used and very effective log burner. The night storage heaters kick out a lot of heat too, much to my surprise! Pretty Great Walsingham village is quiet and the perfect spot for exploring North Norfolk, where there is so much to see and do, not to mention gentle country landscapes and an amazing coastline. The stretch of beach between Wells and Holkham is so compelling, we walked it with our Springer Spaniel every day. Time ran out to see all that we wanted and to try out all the many tempting eating spots. The bottle of wine was a welcome arrival touch, thank you. We will definitely return.
