Property details

If you've ever dreamt of having your own private country estate, a stay in this beautiful coastal hideaway will help to bring your dream alive. Set in a lovely valley, with the Stiffkey chalk stream running through the grounds, and overlooking a large lake (home to a family of swans and visited by a variety of wildfowl around the year), Old Hall Farm offers you peace, privacy and space in breath-takingly beautiful surroundings. This unique holiday retreat is simply paradise for birders, nature lovers, artists, photographers, walkers or anyone wanting to escape their stressful daily lives - soak up the calm, drink in the view and feel yourself begin to relax and unwind.

The spacious and comfortable single-storey accommodation is very well-equipped, light and airy throughout and enjoys stunning views from every window. The superb double aspect large open-plan living space is the most perfect spot for enjoying long, lazy lunches and congregating around the fire at the end of the day, with a glass of wine, to chat the night away comparing notes and sharing stories about the day's activities. With four bedrooms (one double, three twin), three bathrooms, and separate snug/tv room, Old Hall Farm will appeal to families, couples and friends who are looking for an extra special, secret Norfolk Hideaway.

Once you arrive at Old Hall Farm, you might not feel like venturing too far but the beautiful garden will invite you to wander and take a stroll alongside the lake. Take a pair of binoculars, you are sure to spy something interesting - and the magnificent Stiffkey church high up on the skyline is quite something to behold. Stiffkey is a very pretty village with flint houses bordering the narrow streets. At the edge of the village, the North Norfolk Coastal Path runs alongside marshland and is wonderful for walking enthusiasts and birders. At low tide, you can walk out to the beach, but care must always be taken to observe the local tide times. On the main street, the village pub has a friendly atmosphere and serves good food, and Stiffkey Stores is super for coffee and freshly home-baked goodies, as well as a handy place for picking up any day-to-day essentials. A selection of Norfolk produce is being provided for guests in 2019.

If you want to explore further afield, the Coasthopper bus service runs regularly through the village and stops at all the coastal villages from Cromer through to King's Lynn.

(Small children are very welcome to stay at Old Hall Farm, but please note the river, pond and lake are open ((unfenced)), and little ones must therefore be supervised at all times.)

Old Hall Farm holiday cottage location

Surrounding local area

Stiffkey (pronounced stoo-kee) is a beautiful coastal village built on the banks of Stiffkey chalk stream and well known for the narrow and winding road that runs through it. The handy and popular Stiffkey Stores sells newspapers, household essentials and tempting knick-knacks and is becoming renowned for its delicious homemade treats and 'Monmouth' coffee.
The Red Lion is an old fashioned, traditional village pub offering good food and a warm Norfolk welcome.
The huge horizons and a vast open expanse of the salt marshes with their twisting creeks and muddy basins, create a perfect habitat for a wide range of birdlife, mainly waders and wintering wildfowl, and an array of unusual plant life.
The Norfolk Coast path passes along the perimeter of the salt marshes towards Morston then Blakeney to the east, and westwards to Wells-Next-The-Sea - a superb walk in either direction, with breath-taking views and sightings of birds both winter and summer.

Guest reviews

We had a week with extended family here and it was perfect for entertaining lots of people. The house is extremely spacious and living space even bigger than it looks in the photos! Immaculately clean and in good condition with a really good supply of all you would need in the kitchen. Grounds and lake are stunning and very secluded. The owners were helpful in advising us about local beaches etc. Slightly disappointing that Norfolk Hideaways couldn't provide us with a second high chair despite us asking well in advance, given the price we paid for the property, a bit of flexibility over this would have been welcomed. Beware Wells next the Sea was very crowded, parking difficult and if you can't get in the beach car park 30 minutes walk to the beach. Beaches are beautiful, sandy and child friendly but Norfolk was much busier than our usual haunts in South Hams! If we had a large family holiday, we would definitely stay here again.
