Property details

Set in the pretty coastal village of Thornham and a few steps away from the pubs/restaurants/deli’s and café, this wonderful retreat sleeps six and comes wth a fabulous garden and offers relaxed seaside living. Best of all you can walk to the harbour and beach too.

Stylishly furnished with coastal accents, Chestnut Cottage is a Grade II listed flint cottage in a great location with excellent places to eat on the doorstep, making it ideal for couples wanting a larger love nest or families who are looking for a great holiday cottage for a few days, a week or longer.

Step inside and you’ll discover a large welcoming sitting room with wood burning stove and a spacious well-equipped kitchen with breakfast bar and stools. The sunny conservatory to the rear of the property offers space for dining and affords lovely views out over the garden. Outside you'll find a lovely terrace with garden furniture and relaxed seating at the bottom of the fully-enclosed lawned garden.

There are three beautiful and sumptuous bedrooms. All are decorated with designer wallpapers and fabrics. And there’s no fighting over the bathrooms either, as both the master and bedroom two have en-suite shower rooms complete with digitally controlled showers and there is an additional bathroom which serves the twin bedroom, so perfect if there is a group of you staying.

This flint cottage is both laid-back and lovely and with everything decorated in a soft palette of Farrow and Ball chalk paints and accents of colour, it is a lovely place to escape to at the end of the day or when you feel you need an injection of sea air!

Chestnut Cottage holiday cottage location

Surrounding local area

Thornham is a picturesque yet vibrant, old smuggling village right on the North Norfolk Coast. Wide expanses of salt marsh separate the village from the sea and it is a paradise for walkers and bird watchers. There are several great places to eat including Thornham Deli, selling all manner of local produce, cakes, specialities and great coffee (plus big breakfasts and luscious lunches too!), The Lifeboat Inn, an old smuggling haunt complete with heavy beams and roaring fires, which is great for relaxed dining; The Orange Tree, a great gastro pub; or the The Chequers Inn where you can enjoy a variety of dishes (although pizza and pasta are their speciality).
At Drove Orchard's on the edge of the village you will find the village farm shop and pick-your-own-fruit farm. Recently this has evolved into so much more and boasts a fresh fish shop (Gurney's), Eric's fish and chips and Schucks restaurant which is housed in a yurt!
You will adore the diversity of this little coastal village that packs so much in. The beach, reached by a walk past the harbour and over the sea defence and the salt marshes, is simply stunning and you will be rewarded by peace and quiet whatever time of year you are visiting.
Outside of the village you will find other spectacular beaches; Old Hunstanton; Holme-next-the-Sea; Titchwell or Brancaster and a few miles further down the road, don't miss probably the best beach in the UK at Holkham, where you can also explore the hall and its vast parkland.
At Wells-next-the-Sea children and adults alike will adore catching the little train to the beach or crabbing off the quay. A visit to see the seals at nearby Morston or Blakeney is a must as is a visit to HM The Queen's Sandringham Estate, or the RSPB reserves at Titchwell and Snettisham. Or walk along from Thornham beach to to Holme marshes owned by the Norfolk Wildlife Trust to see an abundance of wildlife.
