Gardener's Cottage holiday cottage location

Surrounding local area

Thornham is an old smuggling village right on the North Norfolk Coast and now is one of the most popular villages to holiday for a short break or longer stay.
Wide expanses of saltmarsh separate the village from the sea and it is a paradise for walkers and bird watchers.
There are several great places to eat including Thornham Deli which sells all manner of local produce and great coffee, cake, breakfasts and lunches.
The Lifeboat Inn, an old smuggling haunt, complete with heavy beams and roaring fires, is delightful any time of year and The Orange Tree is a lovely gastro pub.
Enjoy pizza and pasta at The Chequer's before heading off to the beach for the day which is reached by walking over the sea defence and across the salt marshes. You'll be rewarded by peace and quiet and a stunning sandy beach where you can escape from everyday life.

Guest reviews

We stayed at the cottage for a week with our young daughter. We liked that the property was set back from the road giving both privacy and quiet. The cottage was well equipped for us all. We made use of the garden using the table for breakfast and then later in the day playing with the provided swing ball etc in the shade of the tree. The garden was secure too if you are taking a young family. We were able to walk to the local deli/ cafe but there are also lots of places to visit by car within 30 minutes. We would recommend this cottage and consider returning ourselves.

Relaxing spring break. A very enjoyable stay in this stylish and well equipped cottage. Thornham offers great walks and bird watching as well as several very good places for coffee, lunch or more upmarket dining.

Great cottage for our weekend at the coast.... home from home! Felt very comfortable in the cottage and everything was straightforward with booking and getting keys. Great location and Thornham is a little gem. Brancaster beach was fantastic and only five minutes down the road!

Great place to stay with children. We had a lovely time at Gardener's cottage, our girls loved the big bunk bed and the toys in the house and garden. The kitchen and living room are great and a lovely bathroom and wonderful garden!

Very lovely cottage and garden! We really appreciated the comfort and warmth of the heating particularly as the weather was very cold windy and wet for most of our stay, obviously that could not be helped, but we were cosy and could have heat whenever we needed it. The cottage had everything anyone could wish for, very nice. Lovely peaceful village and lovely area!

Great house, best we have stayed in since we started holidaying in Norfolk. Really super clean and comfy and wonderful decor. Kids room was just perfect and so were the little kid friendly touches throughout the house. Thornham is a great village with amazing pubs and close to our favourite beaches of old Hunstanton and Brancaster. Will definitely book again. But could we have better weather next time please!!

Very pretty and convenient location for walking the coast and enjoying local restaurants. Very clean and beautifully decorated. Incredibly comfortable bed and brilliant bathroom. Slightly tricky pulling out of driveway (limited sight lines), restricted cupboard space for storing food and lawn could have been mowed but all things considered these are minor complaints. Very well stocked for a self-catering cottage with many extra touches such as laundry detergent, hand soap, dish cloths, washing up liquid, and tissues in all rooms. Great space for a couple to relax for a week.

the cottage is within eay reach of places to eat in the village. We walked down the road to The Chequers for evening meals. Well equipped, beautifully fitted kitchen with ample supplies of plates, cutlery etc. a small supply of dishwasher tablets and washing up cloths etc were provided. The cottage was lovely, warm and clean with an ample supply of lovely soft towels. Nice garden area to the back of the cottage with open views. Very close to RSPB Titchwell and several other good bird watching sites. would book again.

We wanted to do something different this Christmas but didn't want the formality of a hotel and so decided for the first time to try a cottage, we weren't disappointed! Gardener's Cottage was a comfy, relaxing home from home for us and our guests from around the country who came to stay for a few days at a time. Everyone's reaction was the same, 'Wow!' We were concerned about having everything we needed for a stress free Christmas but it was all there, even a sparkling Christmas tree beside the cosy fire. Everyday we walked on a different beach without having to go far and returned to our warm retreat. There are so many super places to eat in the area, we had fantastic fish and chips at Eric's and a firelit meal at Shucks, the yurt! Both deli's were a source of tasty treats as well. It was obvious that this cottage is a lucky someone's holiday home and as a consequence every eventuality had been thought about. Would we go again? Without reservation, yes!

What a perfect cottage to spend Christmas with family and friends! We had everything we needed and more, including super weather. What's better than a bracing walk on the beach and returning to a cosy fire and Christmas dinner in such beautiful surroundings. We weren't sure about Christmas away from home but it has been perfect in every way! Thank you.

“This cottage is in a very good location well set back from the road and is about five to ten minutes walk to all of Thornham's amenities. It has a lovely private garden. The house has been newly refurbished to a very good standard with an extremely comfortable bed and a high standard of bed linen, good quality sofas and a well equipped kitchen. ”
