Property details

A cosy, character cottage with lovely views and charming cottage gardens, perfectly located for easy access to the coast and getting out and about.

As soon as you enter the front door of Muckledyke Cottage you will feel its warm and relaxing welcome. Nearly three hundred years old, this pretty brick and flint cottage is undeniably compact, but it is warm, comfortable and well-equipped. The south facing sitting room enjoys views across pretty cottage gardens to the open landscape beyond and has a feature fireplace with wood burning stove to ensure you stay super toasty in cooler months, as well as a dining area just made for special fireside suppers. The kitchen is fully fitted with hand made units and all modern appliances, and has a useful, adjoining utility room. Upstairs there are two sunny bedrooms (a double and twin) and bathroom with shower. The beds have luxurious goose down duvets and lovely white linen - so tempting at the end of a busy day. The garden at the rear of the cottage is a true delight - fully enclosed, sheltered and sunny - a lovely, safe spot for children to play and somewhere to enjoy a quiet afternoon with a good book.

If you are looking for a special coastal retreat that offers you characterful charm, comfort, peace and a touch of romance, look no further than Muckledyke Cottage. Simply perfect for a small family, a couple or friends to enjoy all year round, and ideal if you are a keen walker or birdwatcher as you are only five minutes' walk from the North Norfolk Coastal Path which runs alongside the salt marshes; a haven for sea and wetland bird and wildlife.
.
Please note: There are some low ceilings and the stairs are steep, in keeping with the age of the property, and a neighbouring cottage has a right of way through the rear courtyard that leads to the garden. The twin bedroom does not have heating, but there are portable heaters available.

Surrounding local area

Stiffkey (pronounced stoo-kee) is a beautiful coastal village built on the banks of the Stiffkey chalk stream and well known for the narrow and winding road that runs through it. The handy and popular Stiffkey Stores sells newspapers, household essentials and tempting knick-knacks, and is becoming renowned for its delicious homemade treats and 'Monmouth' coffee.
The Red Lion is an old fashioned, traditional village pub offering good food and a warm Norfolk welcome.
The huge horizons and a vast open expanse of the salt marshes with their twisting creeks and muddy basins, create a perfect habitat for a wide range of birdlife, mainly waders and wintering wildfowl, and an array of unusual plant life. The Norfolk Coast path passes along the perimeter of the salt marshes towards Morston then Blakeney to the east, and westwards to Wells-Next-The-Sea - a superb walk in either direction, with breath-taking views and sightings of birds both winter and summer.

We had a lovely week in the sunshine at Muckledyke Cottage. Enjoyed eating our breakfast in the garden and beautiful walks along the coastal path. Good food and friendly welcome at the Red Lion. The walk from Holkham to Wells is a must. We had a great time.
