Perfect for those wanting a very special place in a fantastic location just a minutes' walk to the harbour and in walking distance of the beach.

St Michael’s Cottage is a truly stunning 16th Century flint and brick built former merchant’s house set over four floors. Full of character it has a look-out tower at the top of the house on the fourth floor which affords fantastic views over East Fleet creek, the harbour, the marshes and sea beyond. With a telescope/binoculars supplied, this is a great space for daytime vistas to appreciate the superb coastal views and also is perfect for night-time stargazing. This beautiful cottage decorated in a neutral palette is set on a quiet no through road is located right in the heart of Wells-next-the-Sea, on one of the narrow lanes that leads down to the quay, and comes with off-street parking for one car and its own sunny south-facing courtyard garden, with a barbecue seating area.

Step inside this enchanting cottage and you will find two steep Norfolk winder staircases on either side of the house, a sitting room with wood burner, four sumptous bedrooms plus a shower room and two bathrooms. On the third floor you will find a TV room which also doubles as a fifth bedroom and allows the accommodation to be increased to sleep 11 by making use of the sofa bed although this is only recommended for children. A convivial kitchen/dining space on the ground floor provides the opportunity to enjoy good food and conversation, whilst reminiscing over the days’ events. The master bedroom is beautiul and built into the converted sail loft, which has a stunning heavily-beamed ceiling and exposed brickwork walls which gives a true sense of the history of the house. Now beautifully refurbished, St Michael’s Cottage offers relaxed but stylish living and is a fantastic quirky holiday home full of character. Suitable for both families and friends it is ideal for a short break or longer stay.

Please note:
St Michael’s Cottage is one of Wells’ oldest buildings and as such, there are uneven floor levels and steps both within and outside the property. The two staircases inside the property are Norfolk winder staircases which means they have narrow treads and steep inclines. In keeping with a house of this type and age, we would advise that the house would not be suitable for the less agile. But it is a very enchanting cottage and those who stay will adore the unique character that it comes with.

Although this property is listed as dog-free, serious allergy sufferers should be aware that a dog may have visited the property.

Surrounding local area

Wells-next-the-Sea is a very sought-after and lively coastal town on the north Norfolk coast. With its fine, sandy beach, iconic beach huts, bordered by pine woodlands, it offers a playground for young and old alike. Children will adore the small narrow-gauge railway that will takes you down to the beach if you don't fancy the walk. At the harbour you can see the small fishing fleet unload its daily catch and the quayside is also popular with children, gillying (or fishing) for crabs. There is an eclectic variety of boutique shops, cafes, pubs and tea rooms to browse, with not a chain store in sight and The Buttlands is a lovely part of the town with a tree lined green, fine Georgian house and the fabulous Crown pub and restaurant. Fishing trips, sailing, tennis, a swimming pool and fitness centre and the Wells to Walsingham light railway are all within easy reach and for something totally unique, why not take an Alpaca for a walk across the marshes! Set in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and with the North Norfolk Coastal path running directly through the town you may not wish to wander far but other delights near to hand include Holkham Hall, Burnham Market and its sister villages, Brancaster, Cley-next-the-Sea and Stiffkey to name just a few and of Sandringham, private residence of the Queen. The nature reserves of Titchwell and Cley-next-the-Sea are a must to appreciate the beautiful birdlife and wildlife that makes this stunning coast so special.
