Property details

A really super brick and flint cottage in a quiet village location that has been completely refurbished, enjoys wonderful long distance open rural views and is within easy reach of the coast and many local attractions.

Gallery Cottage is the annexe of the original village School House which became the home of the sculptor Henry Moore in the 1920's and later the renowned American painter, Alfred Cohen and his family. In 1983 The School House Art Gallery opened, which has gained a well-respected reputation for showing contemporary art of the highest quality. The adjoining annexe was totally renovated in Spring 2018 and now stands proud in its own right as a very comfortable and stylish holiday cottage with two en-suite bedrooms (double and twin), and an airy open-plan living space, with exposed original brick and flint wall, overlooking the garden and fields beyond.

With an en suite bedroom on each floor, Gallery Cottage will appeal to couples, singles and friends who enjoy their privacy and independence. It's an ideal spot for walkers, bird watchers, and indeed artists and art lovers - though they might find the temptation of an art gallery next door a bit too hard to resist! Gallery Cottage is suitable for a small family with older children - only children over the age of six years are allowed.

Surrounding local area

Wighton is a quiet village with easy access to the coast, the nearest resort being Wells-next-the Sea, just two miles away, with its bustling Quay, beautiful beach and independent shops and cafes.
Wighton has the feel of a proper village in a land of hamlets along secret lanes, and is surrounded by open farmland. Peaceful and pretty, the village is predominantly made up of brick and flint cottages and located midway between Little Walsingham and the popular coastal resort of Wells-next-the-Sea.
The village pub, The Carpenters Arms, is a popular destination for both locals and visitors and serves great locally sourced food, some of the best pizzas around, and a selection of real ales ‘on tap'.
Wighton church is something of a landmark, sitting on a high rise, and can be seen for miles around.
It is also only a short drive inland to the Walsinghams. Little Walsingham, a medieval wonder that is well worth a visit, has a renowned farm shop, pubs, restaurants and cafes.
The garden and grounds surrounding Walsingham Abbey are famous for the spectacular ruins of the mediaeval Priory and place of pilgrimage, together with an unrivalled display of massed snowdrops in February.
Walsingham has a long history of religious pilgrimage, dating back to the 11th century. Its nearby sister village of Great Walsingham is an ancient and peaceful North Norfolk village, with an award-winning pie maker and cafe, gallery, craft centre and gift shop.

Guest reviews

A beautiful peaceful modern cottage. Gallery Cottage has been recently refurbished to a very high standard. There are two en suite bedrooms. Both are spacious and comfy. Upstairs, is a double bed with fantastic views of rural Norfolk. Downstairs the bedroom has two single beds. There arre lot of things to do from Gallery Cottage. It's just two miles from Wells next the Sea with individual shops as well as a Co op so shopping is easy. We love the walking along the coast and watching the birds. Holkham Hall, Houghton Hall and Felbrigg Hall are worth visiting for a good day out. Wighton is a charming Norfolk village and The Carpenters Arms offers great food and ale. The unique interest for our stay at Gallery Cottage was the gallery adjacent with wonderful pictures by the late Alfred Cohen as well as contemporary artist. The cottage has some of these pictures on the wall to give inspiration.
