Property details

A beautiful bijou and romantic bolt hole just perfect for two (or one), this former Holkham Estate cottage has been transformed by the owners into a delightful oasis of calm. Only 200 yards from fresh water marsh, and a little further to salt water marsh and the North Norfolk coastal path, Goldfinch Cottage is a birder's and walker's paradise. Wonderful for a 'get away from it all' type of break - this is somewhere to kick off your shoes, really relax, and enjoy listening to the sounds of nature all around you.

This charming mid terrace cottage has everything you will need for enjoying this wonderful part of North West Norfolk at any time of year. Compact in size, but well-equipped with clever use of space, the cottage is decorated and comfortably furnished in a fresh and contemporary cottage style, with an open plan light and airy living space to the ground floor, warmed by a log burner for cooler months, and a pretty bedroom with king size bed and views across the garden to the marshes and Burnham Overy Windmill beyond on the first floor.

Burnham Norton, a hamlet made up of pretty flint cottages, is tucked away down a quiet lane off the main coast road, and nestles on the edge of Norton Marsh which is rich in birds and wildlife. There are no shops or pubs in the village so just put on your boots, grab your binoculars, and stretch your legs with a forty minute walk across the fields and marshes to the deserted Norton Beach, wade out to Scolt Head Island at low tide or take the coastal path to Burnham Overy Staithe and enjoy an evening meal at The Hero. The neighbouring village of Burnham Market, bustling with shops, cafes and the popular Hoste Arms, is just over a mile away and easily reached by foot or car.

A Quiet Break. Goldfinch Cottage made an ideal base for a peaceful short break. The cottage is very well appointed and comfortable. The patio outside the front door is a sun trap and completely sheltered from the wind. The Norfolk Coastal Path is just at the end of the road for walks amongst the fresh water and salt marshes. The Hero in Burnham Overy Staithe is a five minute drive and serves excellent food. Nisa at Burnham Deepdale is five minutes in the other direction for petrol, newspapers and other essentials. We spend every summer in Brancaster with children and grandchildren, but for a quiet break Burnham Norton is ideally located away from the hustle and bustle of the villages on the A149.

Short relaxing break. Lovely place, home away from home. Great walks, lovely view and good birdwatching. Not far from Holkham Hall, Wells and all the places along the coast road.

A great location with walks and wildlife on the doorstep! A pre-dusk walk along the footpath towards the windmill was particularly successful - lovely views of hunting barn owl, along with marsh harriers, hares and bats! If you have a clear night, star-gazing is a must - so little light pollution and the dark skies are incredible. We enjoyed wildlife watching at RSPB Titchwell and NWT Cley and browsing the gallery/shops - The Hare and Hen in Burnham Deepdale and the Birdscapes Gallery near Cley Spy (Glandford). Supper at Eric's Fish and Chips (Thornham) was fun - they even had an imaginative veggie option. Thank you, a lovely cottage for two.

Such a lovely cottage, so much thought has been put into this project to make it a perfect retreat for two. We loved the paintings! Burnham Norton is the perfect location for walkers, we walked from the cottage to Wells along the coastal path -a fabulous walk which we would highly recommend. (We caught the bus back!) Would love to come back.

Super cottage, very clean and welcoming. Thank you for a very peaceful week - lots of walking and bird watching on the marshes. Wonderful afternoon sat in the sun watching the seals - not to be forgotten, thank you again.
